I put this here, as you don't have a Pirates of the Carribbean folder.

Ok, I'm the first to admit it. I'm a bloody idiot. I went out and bought another Akella product.
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool me three times, somebody shoot me between the eyes. LOL

Ok, my first problem with the game, first of many, judging by the users reviews, is that I can't even install it. After much hunting, I found on their support site a comment about it needing 1.5 gigs of hd space. I've freed up 2.5 and it still insists I don't have enough. Does anybody know how much space it actually needs?
I would have posted this on the PotC forum, but there isn't one. There isn't even any plans for one.
For those of you who don't have the game yet, I'd like to quote here the entire installation instructions in the manual. It gave me quite a laugh.

Installing the Game

Insert Pirates of the Caribbean Disk 1 CD and run the setup.exe if it doesn't start automatically. Follow the on-screen instructions to install.

That's it. After that, they go on to game play. No system requirments. No troubleshooting help. Nothing. They don't even have their website addy in the manual. I found it at the end of a very well hidden readme file.

Ok, ok. I'm done venting now. I would still like to know about the disk space thingy though.

Thanks for your help

needs exactly 2,5 GB on my drive.
Stupid thing, often I played it and if I want to start it the next time it doesn't work and I had to reinstal it

I only recently have ordered CD with this game, which waited long and with the large impatience.
I expect soon to receive it.
Capt Willy Posted: Jul 29 2003, 07:36 AM Got a response to my email inquiry from Bethesda, the distributer of the game. To give them credit, they were pretty quick to respond to my question. Term was absolutly right, as the email shows:

Hello,

Pirates of the Caribbean requires 2.5G of space free on the hard drive to install. The information stating only 1.5G was incorrect in the manual.

Well, unless I go out and buy a new hard drive, on the shelf it will sit. :-(

Thanks for your help folks

Just come back from seeing the film, have to say its very impressive the ship combat scenes were done well although i am sure i detected those recoiless guns again!!! The other good thing is they have left it open for a sequal so heres hoping:) Isnt it interesting that Baddest Pirate of the Lot was called Barbossa and the Baddest Pirate we have around the AoS community is Barbarosa only a couple of letters out I wonder!!!!

regards
Rob

Oh and guess what it seems yet again we here in Britain have been denied the release of an Akella game can i find PotC in stores can I bloody buggery like (scuse me French) It seems that as One of the greatest sea faring nations, we have been left of the distribution of the game its scandellous!!!

I've been messing around with Xbox version of PoC. From what I can tell from screenshots and reviews it's very much the same as pc version with the biggest exception being that....on Xbox it works without crashing

Some of the graphic scenes in it are stunning. Very open ended game in that you can do pretty well whatever you like. It plays very well and is quite a bit of fun. Sailing is quite the experience. Chainshot works!

Anyways, the ship models look very similar to what is being offered in Burning Sea. I'm now really looking forward to that one when it comes out!

I too have bought this game. That I have seen in it to me very much it was pleasant. The characters became more alive, images very beautiful. But in the Russian version not all has appeared successfully. The protection, established in game, against copying - StarForce3 strongly has spoiled impression from game, and the more so is a difficult obstacle for creation add-on, of which we dreamed in a circle of my friends. But we continue to search for ways of intervention in game with the purpose of change of a plot.

Ok, for any of you that are following along and getting a good laugh at my expense, here's the latest.

I didn't have enough room on my hard drive to install PotC (.3 gig short ) so I went and bought a new 80 gig hd. Tonnes of room now.
Finally install the game. Hit start new game, boom, windows error.
After some research, turns out:

QUOTE
The ATI Rage Fury and 128 chipsets will not run Pirates of the Caribbean. Those are older chipsets that do not support the functionality required for the game.

Older chipsets? Bought that card last year.
Looks like I'm off to the pc store again tomorrow.

Total cost of game thus far:
Game $67 + 15% tax 77.05
HD $169 + 15% tax 194.39
Vid Card ??????

Stay tuned for grand total...
It's a good thing I've got a sense of humour, lol.

edit: just occoured to me. last time i bought new vid card was when i got AOSII, march 2002. Akella in league with vid card producers?

Poor Willy,

That said the only reason I have a system that is any good is due to my last computer deciding to die right in the middle of my Post Grad Course when I had an essay due in on the Monday and it died on the saturday... so I went out and spent some money on a new computer, but since then I have improved the Ram by 512meg and changed the Video card to a GF4Ti so it rumbles along quite nicely now.

Ok, the final total is in....

In order to purchase and run PotC, it cost me C$334.95

So far to date, it has crashed on me 8 times. The parts in port seem to work ok, but as soon as I go to sea, it crashes like a concorde (in flames ).

Another fine naval simulation brought to you by the folks at Akella.

D'Orleans Posted: Aug 16 2003, 01:44 PM
So what vid card did you get? I picked up an ATI 9700 Pro a little back just to play IL2 Forgotten Battles on "perfect"... SO I guess you could say that game cost me $450 Cdn....($110 US or whatever it works out to these days)
